Toddlers in Philippine Cinemas

Since my post before this is about Movies for Kids, now I have a thought of our cinemas here in the Philippines... and toddlers, and even babies.

my little munchkin's first movie
I know I've shared before when Maco was not yet a year old, and we watched a movie at Bonifacio High Street, she was free of charge.  Here's Maco's first cinema experience. If I remember it correctly, the lady on the desk, who my sister-in-law and husband were talking to was I think the one asking for my little munchkin's age or whatever, but the other lady(who's also behind the desk) just said that we can just go in, no need to pay for my little munchkin. And we were all thankful because movie tickets today are damn expensive! Hehe

Just last month, we watched a movie again at Cash & Carry Makati. This was Maco's 2nd time in a cinema and she's a year and 6 months, but I was still expecting that she would be free of charge because obviously she can't sit on the cinema seat on her own yet because she might sink in. And it would not make sense that we'd have to pay for it because she'd basically sit on our lap. But apparently no, we had to pay P 230.00 for her. Yes, she had a reserved seat that she won't be able to sit on, no discounts and sht. I was really surprised and disappointed that we had to pay, I almost said no. But we're with my husband's niece and nephew and I don't want to break their little hearts, and so we just went on.

A week ago though my cousin-in-law went to Uptown Mall to check on the movies and they heard a foreigner saying that it makes no sense that they'll be paying for her baby (who's still in a carrier) a cinema ticket.

And so I came to a thought...

That's true. It doesn't make any sense that we would be paying for a baby or even toddler's cinema ticket. I mean, the little one obviously can't sit on his/her own yet. But, why? Am I just being a cheap-ass mom? Haha! How about you, what do you think?

  1. First time I heard about this and it's quite sad that they don't have a policy for this. - Jen

    1. Hi! Really? Well, if ever that'll be implemented here in the Philippines, then I guess it would be fine lang rin naman. Or hopefully sa mga cartoons lang talaga sila pwede! Hahaha! ;) Thanks for visiting my blog! Will check out yours ;)

  3. Ay nakakawarla yan! I would'nt pay if that's me. That's very unreasonable! Baka nga magpatawag pa ko ng manager pag ganyan. I would understand if toddlers are not allowed up to a certain age pero yung may bayad, no-no!

  4. what?...well i know some cinema wouldn't allow toddlers inside the cinema but if they do, i don't think they need to be charged for admission...they will not even appreciate what they can see on that big screen and yes, they cannot seat on the cinema seat too

  5. I didn't know they would charge toddlers at least for that age! That's frustrating to hear. Grabe, other companies would really do their best to get money from their customers no? tsk.tsk.

  6. I agree... if they can't take a seat or appreciate the movie yet, it makes no sense charging them for admission inside the cinema!

  8. Babies should be free of charge, first off they won't occupy any of the seats! I think they just want to earn extra money. That's unfair

  9. Yes, they do not occupy a seat in the cinema and they should not be charged for going in with their folks. However, why do you, guys, bring your kids to the cinema at such a young age? They won't understand a thing about the movie, may even cry in the middle of it, and disturb other cinema goers? My apologies but I just really want to understand. I hate it when people bring their kids into a movie house and not be responsible enough to lead his/her kid out when the child is putting a tantrum.

    1. Hi! I understand where you're coming from because that's exactly what I feel when I don't have a baby yet and I see a toddler in the cinema hehehe! The 2 movies we watched with my little one though were children movies so a lot of kids watch =it as well, and even toddlers below 2 years old! And toddlers really appreciate colorful cartoons! And I must say, a lot of laughter from the toddlers and kids was what I heard from the cinemas we watched in. :)

  11. I think it depends on the cinema. A friend shared with me that her 2 year old daughter was free in SM while they were asked to pay at Robinsons.

  12. You should check which cinemas offer free admission for babies, I think toddlers should be free if they're not going to occupy a seat anyway. I have the same sentiments with Karmela though, if you think your baby is too young to appreciate the movie, maybe you can get your fix of colorful things somewhere else where the baby can't be a possible nuisance to other viewers. No offsense ha! XD

  13. I know this may be last year pa but anyways i'll share my experience. When my son was 8mos old we went to Market Market to watch a movie and he was free. The lady in the counter said if my lo is already 1yo then he may be charged same fee. Dapat kahit saang cinema free ang charge ng babies kasi pag nagtopak na sila need na din sila ilabas sayang din bayad natin. Dapat up to 3 o 4 free of charge like sa concerts unless pambata yung panunuorin may bayad sila.
